CPP demands an apology from NAPO for comparing Nkrumah to Akufo-Addo.

The Convention People's Party (CPP) has asked Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the candidate for flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to apologise for making a comparison between President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's running mate made the following remarks at his unveiling on July 9: "No president of Ghana has developed the country more than President Akufo-Addo, not even Dr. Kwame Nkrumah."

“I can boldly assert that, if Ghana's history is told from 1957 on, we have never had a president who has contributed more to the country's success than Nana Akufo-Addo. “Nana Akufo-Addo has protected Ghana and developed the country more than anyone else since 1957, including your Kwame Nkrumah,” he said at his official unveiling event on July 9, 2024, at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.

Dr Opoku Prempeh focused on that, "President Akufo-Addo has fostered this country to the appreciation of all. As a result, we will not permit the events of 2008 to occur again. Ideally, Nana Akufo-Addo should hand it over to Dr. Bawumia, his younger brother.

Prior, Dr Opoku Prempeh was acquainted officially with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is his uncle. During that ceremony, the Asantehene told his nephew to get rid of the label of arrogant that his critics had given him.

However, the Convention People's Party (CPP) issued a statement as a response to this: "The Convention People's Party calls on the Honourable Minister, within 24 hours, to do the ‘Honourable’ thing for the sake of the Country’s image, and immediately resign from all Governmental and political positions, and issue an immediate apology and retraction." This statement was issued in response to the CPP's statement.

"Bombing which the party approaches His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to pull out the Hon. Minister from his position as Minister of Energy and asks His Excellency Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to withdraw him as his vice presidential candidate for the country's long-term political and economic fortunes and its image. Ghanaians and Nkrumaist's around the world, will have no real option except to raise a ruckus around town to enlist their disappointment if the abovementioned, or comparative measures, are not quickly implemented in 24 hours or less.

“As the adage goes, "one who puts on his armour should not boast like one who takes it off," there is an election to be fought, albeit at the ballot box. The current government would do well to heed the voice of the people, lest their imminent electoral defeat become even worse than what is predicted to be the case.”
