The West, particularly Germany, is warned by Dmitry Medvedev, who was president of Russia from 2008 to 2012 and is a significant ally of Vladimir Putin.
The recent publication of an article in the German daily Bild was not appreciated by Medvedev, who is now vice president of the Russian Security Council. As per him, the West applauded the arrival of German tanks to Russian soil.
According to a report published in March 2024 by Taras Kuzio of the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington, Medvedev had vowed to seize more Ukrainian territory, including Kyiv, and had warned the West "against possible nuclear attacks against Washington, Berlin, and London." Most as of late, on August 9, Putin's partner by and by communicated his ability to engage in open battle. He made direct threats against Berlin on X (formerly Twitter) following the publication in the Bild.
He penned: In a revanchist article, the German newspaper Bild proudly announced the return of German tanks to Russian territory. Medvedev is referring to Nazi Germany's 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union, as reported by Newsweek and The Daily Digest. We will do everything in our power to bring the most recent Russian tanks onto the "Platz der Republik" as a response," he adds. According to The Daily Digest, one of Berlin's main public squares is the Platz der Republik, which is opposite the Reichstag, where the German Federal Parliament meets.
However, Newsweek reminds Medvedev that Germany is a NATO member and that, in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO treaty, any attack on this member state would require Berlin's allies to provide assistance.
